The drilling vessel can be designed for oil exploration at a depth of 2000 meters underwater. At this depth, the drilling vessel cannot be anchored to the seabed and can only float on the sea surface.

In adverse weather or sea conditions, the drilling vessel must vacate the drilling site and return to it when conditions permit, continuing drilling within the same borehole. This drilling repositioning system ensures that a 100mm diameter drill pipe can be re-located to the same borehole on the seabed at a depth of 2000 meters.

The sonar system deployed at the bottom of the drill pipe searches for the sonar reflector on the borehole and provides the operator with azimuth information to guide the drill pipe to the top of the borehole.

This system can also be used for underwater pipeline docking during the replenishment of liquid cargo such as oil and water between surface ships and between surface ships and deep-diving submarines during navigation.
